Goal of research:My great grandfather John M emigrated to the US in April 1912 and lived in the US until 1928. I am trying to confirm whether the following family story is true. According to my grandfather (son of John), when he arrived in Austria (travelling from Transylvania), John was arrested and jailed. The story goes that he was freed from prison (allowing him to continue unto US) due to a mass pardon issued by Emperor Franz Joseph sometime in 1912. It is unknown when he was jailed or released, but he arrived in April 1912 in the US (confirmed via Ellis Island). I am interested to see if there is any archival information to confirm he was indeed imprisoned, which, if true would have happened in late 1911 or very early 1912.
